About me
Drew Macdonald is an award-winning Australian / Kiwi filmmaker with a love for genre storytelling that explores what makes us human. He’s repped by CAA & 3 Arts Management in the U.S. and has taught Screenwriting & Directing at the New York Film Academy.
Drew has fifteen years of experience developing television and feature projects for both the US and Australian market. His action thriller series, ONLY ONE SURVIVES developed through the Impact Australia program, is being produced by Bryan Unkeless (I TONYA, HUNGER GAMES) at Clubhouse Pictures for Amazon Studios US. He also has a black comedy series, LOSERS, and a survival thriller feature film, BUCKS, in development with Dreamchaser Entertainment as well as a horror feature, THE OTHER SIDE, with Exile Films.
His short films, CREEPER and HERE THERE BE MONSTERS, have over 50M views online and played over one hundred festivals worldwide. This lead to feature versions of both concepts going into development in the U.S. with Orion Pictures (SILENCE OF THE LAMBS) and Di Bonaventura Pictures (TRANSFORMERS, PET SEMETARY) respectively.
In Australia, Drew has had development funding from Screen Australia and Screen Queensland on multiple projects and has worked in writers rooms for Netflix, Stan, ABC, Freemantle, and Essential Entertainment.
Outside of writing and directing, Drew was a producer on the Emmy-nominated and AACTA winning feature documentary; ONLY THE DEAD, for H.B.O and he co-wrote and produced THE WANDERERS, for ABC Australia - directed by Selina Miles.
He has been nominated for an AWGIE and was named one of SPA’s Ones To Watch.
